What is Ru’s Roots?
Ru’s Roots is a nonprofit organization that provides adaptive fitness and movement training for teens and adults with special needs. Our mission is to create a supportive environment where individuals can improve their physical health, build confidence, and experience the joy of movement.
Who can participate?
Ru’s Roots is open to teens and adults with special needs or disabilities who want to participate in adaptive movement and fitness programs.
What types of activities do you offer?
We offer a variety of adaptive training opportunities including adaptive boxing, weight training, reflex and coordination training, movement drills, and small group fitness classes.
Do participants need experience or a certain fitness level?
No experience is required. Every session is adapted to meet each athlete’s individual abilities, ensuring a safe and encouraging experience.
Is there a cost to participate?
No. All programming at Ru’s Roots is completely free for athletes, thanks to the generosity of donors, sponsors, and volunteers.
Do caregivers need to stay during sessions?
Participants 18 and under must have a caregiver or parent present on the property at all times.
What paperwork is required?
All participants must complete a liability waiver and medical history form before participating in any sessions.
How can I volunteer?
Volunteers play a huge role in supporting our athletes. If you’re interested in helping, you can fill out the volunteer form and we will follow up with next steps.

Where are you located?
Ru’s Roots serves the Opelika, Alabama community and surrounding areas. We are located right off of exit 60 in the Geneva McCoy Commercial Park at 1101 Geneva St. Opelika, AL 36801.
